Exploring the Unique Wines of Sardinia: A Guide to Sarda Wines' Top Picks

Sardinia, an island off the coast of Italy, is known for its breath-taking landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. But did you know that it's also home to some of the most unique and flavourful wines in the world?

At Sarda Wines, we are proud to offer a selection of premium Sardinian wines that are sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur. From rare grape varieties to meticulous winemaking techniques, each bottle is a true expression of Sardinia's rich terroir and cultural heritage.

Here are some of our top picks:

  1. Jù Red Isola Dei Nuraghi IGT

This blend of Cannonau, Carignano, and Bovale Sardo grapes are pressed and then macerated for approximately 12–14 days. After racking, the wine is decanted into vitrified cement tanks for malolactic fermentation to occur, and then the wine is transferred to new casks where it ages for 24 months, resulting in a complex and aromatic wine with notes of black cherry, plum, and spices. It's an excellent choice to pair with grilled meats or mature cheeses.

  2. Cannonau Di Sardegna Blasio DOC Riserva

This Cannonau-based red wine is aged for two years in oak barrels and has a deep ruby colour with light garnet hues as it ages and aromas of forest fruits. On the palate, it's full-bodied and velvety with a persistent finish. Try it with roasted lamb or game.

  3. Carignano Falconaro Isola Dei Nuraghi IGT

This 100% Carignano wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels and has an intense ruby red colour and aromas of wild berries. On the palate, it's full-bodied with ripe tannins and a long finish. It pairs well with hearty dishes like braised beef or game stew and cheese.

  4. Nasco Di Cagliari Montesicci DOC

This white wine is made from the Nasco grape variety, which is native to Sardinia. It's fresh and crisp with a floral and fruity bouquet of white peach, apricot, and citrus. It's a perfect match for seafood dishes or fresh salads.

  5. Sardinian Barbera Terresicci Isola Dei Nuraghi IGT

This Barbera-based red wine has a ruby colour and aromas of redcurrants and cherry are noticeable, then spicy notes of cinnamon. On the palate, it's round and sunny on the palate; velvety tannin accompanied by a generous and exuberant structure that makes it a versatile pairing for many dishes, including pasta with meat sauce or aged cheeses.
